NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports neither the Broncos nor Texans will trade for Tony Romo.

The Cowboys have given Romo permission to speak with other teams in an effort to drum up trade interest, but both Denver and Houston are holding their ground. Dallas is doing everything they can to get something in return for Romo, but they are going to be forced to release him unless a surprise team enters the picture.

NFL Network's Mike Garofolo reports the Cowboys have given Tony Romo permission to speak with other teams.

Supposedly the talks must be "limited to conversations concerning (Romo's) 2017-19 NFL player contract," but the Cowboys are essentially granting Romo free agent rights, allowing him to make visits and take physicals. It's the Cowboys' last-ditch effort at facilitating a trade. Romo's release, sometime in the next few weeks, remains the most likely outcome.

Joel Corry of CBS Sports considers April 17 a "logical ending point" for the Tony Romo saga.

That's when the Cowboys begin offseason workouts. It would be pretty uncomfortable for all parties if Romo were still on the team at that point. If it came to that, Romo would have to show up or risk having his salary reduced by $500,000. At the very latest, the Cowboys could wait until after the draft to cut bait on Romo. Owner Jerry Jones previously mentioned training camp as the deadline for a decision on Romo, but we're guessing he'll be gone long before then.
