The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins plan to release Julius Thomas by the start of the new league year.
It's extremely unsurprising news. The move will clear $6.6 million in space for a team that's up tight against the cap. After two disappointing years in Jacksonville, Thomas remained disappointing in Miami, catching just 41 passes for three scores while averaging an anemic 9.5 yards per catch. He spent the final few weeks of the season on injured reserve with a foot injury. Amazingly, Thomas still doesn't turn 30 until June, but injuries have sapped all of his play-making ability.
