Saints coach Sean Payton confirmed C.J. Spiller was a healthy scratch Week 1.
Payton said Spiller was sat because Travaris Cadet was going to have a bigger role on offense and rookie Daniel Lasco is a bigger contributor on special teams. With both facts unlikely to change in the near future, Spiller could find himself in street clothes often this season. Spiller is not worth holding in any formats.

Saints RB C.J. Spiller is a healthy scratch for Week 1 vs. the Raiders.
The Saints went to great pains to pretend they still liked Spiller this summer, but it must have been to try to create a trade market. He's apparently at the very bottom of the 53-man roster. Tim Hightower will back up Mark Ingram and get 6-8 touches. Also inactive for the Saints are LB Dannell Ellerbe, CB Sterling Moore, LB Obum Gwacham, OL Landon Turner, TE Chris Manhertz and WR Tommylee Lewis.

C.J. Spiller (knee) said he's feeling the best he's felt since signing with the Saints.
"Just hopefully I can stay on the right track with everything, and once we kick this thing off, be ready to go," Spiller said. "I definitely feel real good." Spiller's early-season role remains uncertain, but he has volunteered to return kickoffs on top of whatever offensive role he holds. It was notable that in the preseason, Spiller ran extensively with the first-team offense as Mark Ingram's COP back.
