According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions are expected to release TE Brandon Pettigrew (knee, PUP) soon.
Per Birkett, his locker at the Lions' facility has already been cleaned out. Pettigrew is said to be healthy after tearing his ACL last December but the Lions decided against activating him. With Eric Ebron getting most of the snaps at tight end these days, there's just no room for Pettigrew in Detroit anymore.

The Lions will not activate TE Brandon Pettigrew (knee) from the reserve/PUP list.
Pettigrew is still slightly less than a year removed from tearing his left ACL. A Lion since going with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2009 draft, Pettigrew is signed for $4.35 million next season. He obviously won't see that. Pettigrew turns 32 in February. He could have a hard time finding a new home if the Lions pass on a pay cut and release him outright.

Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew (knee, PUP) isn’t expected to return Sunday.
Pettigrew has been practicing since Week 12. He hasn't had any setbacks but isn’t ready to return. The Lions will need to activate Pettigrew next week or shut him down for the season.
