Jaguars coach Doug Marrone announced Blake Bortles will be his Week 1 starter.

Despite starting the third preseason game over Blake Bortles, veteran Chad Henne was named the backup quarterback. Henne's stint with the first team was relatively average on Thursday highlighted by a well-thrown deep ball and not producing any turnovers. While Henne isn't going to be the starter Week 1, Bortles is sure to be on a short leash making it likely we will see Henne get some time in the regular season.

Blake Bortles engineered two touchdown drives against the Panthers' backups, while Henne's night was less productive as the starter. The Jaguars play J.J. Watt's Texans in Week 1, so whomever they tab to take snaps is likely to struggle out of the gate. After watching Marrone's post-game press conference, NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal's takeaway was that Henne will likely get the Week 1 nod.

Chad Henne completed 8-of-14 passes for 73 yards in the Jaguars' third preseason game.

Henne didn't do anything special to lock up the starting job on Thursday but also didn't do much to lose it. His consistent lack of pocket presence led to multiple hurried throws and unnecessary dump-offs. However, he did have two great deep throws, one to Allen Robinson for 37 yards and another to Keelan Cole which was dropped. Henne isn't draftable in fantasy leagues at the moment as it isn't a lock he will be the starter come week 1.
